One of the common traits of all successful people I know is that they read a lot. But what happens if you are not a great reader? I admit, I am not a great reader — so I’ve turned to audiobooks to help. Now, I can consider myself well read and help myself achieve greater successes.
Hey everybody, today I want to talk about one common trait all successful people have and what to do if you do not fall into this group.
Hey I’m Greg Taylor, Founder of MarketingPress, and today I wanted to talk about the common trait that all successful people that I know have and that’s reading. They read a lot. You know, I look at all the super successful people that I know and they read tons of books. They are always saying … they are asking me, “Greg, did you read this book?” Or, “Did you read that book?” Or hey, you know, “This author in this book says this” and while I love to think that I read a lot, the fact is that I’m not a good reader. And it’s taken me a while to come to terms with that that I don’t read that well. Now, I can read, yes, I just read slow, and I have trouble comprehending things, and I stay on the same paragraph over and over. My mind tends to wander.
So I want to put myself in the category of somebody that’s well read. So this is what I have done about it. I have subscribed to Audible. So Audible is a book service. It’s like a book on tape that is from Amazon, and what I can do now is I get books delivered to my iPhone and to my computer. And I can listen to them in the car, in the gym, during, you know, times in the office. I can listen to them at home. So I can then become one of those well read people.
Now Audible is not the only game in town, there are other, you know, books on tape and whatever services. Audible is just the one that I use but give it a go. This is an easy solution to a problem that I have had for a long time, and now what I do is I just listen to the books. And I am starting to, you know, engage in conversations with other people who are very well read, and we are reading similar things. I like to read a lot of non-fiction, business, and philosophy books.
So I’m giving it a go, you know. Maybe I’ll make a video later on and say how it’s going on with that but so far so good. I’ve burned through one of Tim Ferriss’ books. I’m on to “David and Goliath” now from Malcolm Gladwell. So if you have the same problem that I had that, you know, you want to be well read but you’re just not a great reader, a book delivered to your iPhone and whatnot could be the solution for you. So thanks for watching, and I’ll talk to you again soon.
